Theatre Arts I
Grades 9-12, 1 credit
Course number: DT-410-1
Theatre Arts I is a course which offers students an introduction to the process and production of theatre. This skills-based class enhances communication skills and team work through collaborative performances. Students will use theatre practices to create, perform, and reflect in social and historical contexts. This is a great class to increase your creativity while meeting fun people!
Courses
Theatre Arts courses fulfill the fine arts graduation requirement for Howard County Public Schools in an exciting, interactive manner. Students are encouraged to try new things, collaborate with their peers, and apply creative problem-solving skills to the many performance, writing, and design projects we work on throughout the year. Upper level courses for GT credit are offered for serious theatre students, many of whom end up pursuing careers in performance, dramatic writing, or theatrical design.
Please contact Mrs. Tobiason at lauren_tobiason@hcpss.org with any questions or to set up an audition or interview (for technical theatre students) if you would like to bypass Theatre 1 in order to enroll in an upper-level course. If you are hoping to bypass Theatre 1, but cannot currently register for the upper level course, please sign up for Theatre 1 and email Mrs. Tobiason and your counselor to request the change.
